Northern Goshawk, Gray-headed Hark, Hodgson’s Hawk Eagle, and Eastern Marsh Harrier regularly breed in our area, Mie. The breeding territories of these birds of prey are sometimes threatened by various development, road construction, wind farm construction and etc. Our society monitored the breeding of these birds of prey in some areas, and the results are used for the conservation of their territories.
The Golden Eagle is one of the threatened species in Japan. The estimated pair number is only 150 to 200. Dam and resort construction, and decrease in mountainous grassland are the main problem on the conservation of this eagle. In our area, Mie, one pair breeds in northern Suzuka Mountains.
However, this pair is threatened by lime mining nearby. The mining company has a plan to enlarge the mining area into the hunting zone of this pair.
