--- Aiming to subscribe Ramsar Convention ---
A large part of the natural sandy shore in central Japan has been reclaimed and changed into ports and factories in late 20 century. However, the western shoreline of Ise Bay still has natural sandy beach, tidal flat and estuary of river, where many waders and other water birds visit and stay for foraging.
Especially the shoreline in Tsu and Matsuzaka is important for waders. Joining with the National Wader Count, we regularly counted wader numbers in this shoreline for more than ten years.
Based on our data, Ministry of Environment of Japan recognizes that the shoreline in Tsu and Matzuzaka is worthy to be designated as an internationally important Ramsar Site. But local authorities in Tsu and Matsuzaka do not take positive measures on this matter.
