Lower reach of Shihara River
Paddy field near Shihara River. Waders can be found in Spring and Autumn.
Along the Shihara River, we have some wetland and farmland, and they are nice points for watching passerines and water birds. Black-faced bunting, Reed Bunting, Rustic Bunting and Long-tailed Rose Finch are seen in winter. In addition Goshawks and Kestrels sometimes appear searching for prey. This is the only place for breeding of Great Reed Warbler in southern Mie. Rare sterling species, Starling, Gray-backed Myna, and Silky Starling are recorded among commonly found Gray Starling flocks.
