We have a wide tidal flat on the estuary of the Kongo River (Kongo-gawa). At the end of the southern bank of the Kongo River, we have a parking lot and a restroom (map). A flock (10 to 20 individuals) of Saunder’s Gull regularly winter on this tidal flat. This threatened species mainly winters in the western areas, Kyushu and Chugoku regions in Japan. The estuary is one of the eastern most areas, where this gull winters regularly. Various waders also visit in this estuary. Be careful! The road on the bank to the parking lot is very narrow.
