A medium-sized hawk having slate-grey upperpart, and white with barred underpart. Common breeder and residential in hilly areas of Mie, but the number is not so many.

This hawk lives mainly on birds and often attacks domestic dove. The hunting areas are woodlands on hill, along river, and near pond. The environmental changes in these decades in Mie, i.e.: planting of conifers on hill, expand of bamboo bush, and construction of factories reduce the breeding and hunting rages of this hawk.
